Natural repellents often use essential oils like peppermint, eucalyptus, or citronella, which have strong smells that rats find unpleasant. These oils can be applied directly to the engine compartment or used in specially designed sachets or sprays that release the scent over time. On the other hand, chemical-based repellents usually contain substances that irritate rats' sensitive noses or taste, causing them to avoid the area.   In some cases, rat repellent devices use ultrasonic sound waves, which are uncomfortable for rodents but inaudible to humans.
